  Scholarship News - It is that time of year!

        It is that time of year again!! School is back in session and it’s time to start thinking about scholarships. Time goes by so fast that I    wanted to remind you now of our deadlines.
        All of you proud parents and grandparents of a college undergraduate or graduating high school Senior need to pick up a Chico Elks Lodge Merit Scholarship application in the front office. The Merit Scholarship is only available to the children, grandchildren or great grandchildren of Chico Elks Lodge members. This scholarship consists of two $500 awards to be given to one female and one male student. Merit Scholarship applications are due back in the office by March.
        ENF Legacy Awards 2009 applications are available online as of September 1, 2008, at www.elks.org/enf/sch olars. The Legacy Award is open to children and grandchildren (or stepchild, step-grandchild) of a living Elk. Legacy applications are due on January 2, 2009, and must be submitted to Elks National Foundation in Chicago, NOT THE CHICO LODGE. Complete guidelines are available online.
        The ENF Most Valuable Student scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior and applications are also available online as of September 1, 2009, at www.elks.org/enf/sch olars. MVS applications are due on January 9, 2009, and must be submitted to the Chico Elks Lodge.

Elks National Foundation Expands Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program to $2.296 Million


In 2008-2009, the Elks National Foundation will award a total of $2.296 million in four-year scholarships to 500 national finalists.  As in previous years, first-place winners will each receive $60,000 awards, and second- and third-place winners will receive awards of $40,000 and $20,000, respectively.  In addition, twelve finalists will be eligible for new scholarship awards totaling $46,000, representing fourth through seventh places.  All remaining runners-up will receive $4,000 scholarships.

Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.  Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the BPO Elks.  Males and females compete separately.  Applicants are judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

Applications for the 2008 contest are available at Elks lodges, for download at http://www.e lks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm, or by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Ave., Chicago, IL 60614.  Applications must be filed with the applicant's nearest Elks lodge no later than January 11, 2008.

Applications must advance through local, district, and state competitions to reach the national competition.  Winners will be announced around May 15, 2008.

Through its Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest and two other scholarship programs, the Elks National Foundation annually offers more than $3 million in scholarships.  More information about ENF scholarship programs is available at http://www.elks.org/ enf/scholars.
