Dispatcher of the Year

Stephanie Rekers Dispatcher of the Year

Stephanie Rekers enjoys her job as a dispatcher at the Gridley-Biggs Police Department very much but it is the people she works with, her “second family,” that she appreciates even more.

Rekers and her husband Kirk have two children ages four and six and the family enjoys fishing, camping and basically anything spent outdoors. She has taken up running which is a great stress reliever, probably very much needed in her line of work.

“You learn the challenge of multi-tasking, particularly when several ‘in progress’  calls are coming in all at once. No day is the same,” she explained.

Growing up in Grass Valley, Rekers now lives in Marysville. She has worked at GBPD for two-and-a-half years. She was honored by the Chico Elks Lodge April 12 as the “Dispatcher of the Year,” award.

May’s ER Message

What a month! April flew by, but I guess when you are having fun it does go quickly. It was quite an event filled month that started off with a wonderfully successful inaugural BrewFest chaired by Geri Lee, myself and the Noon Exchange Club.

In case you missed it, our lodge was- packed and we had almost 600 attendees! Then Sunday was a beautiful Easter brunch and egg hunt for all the kids.

Thank you to all who attended and to Victoria & Michael Staples and my lovely wife Jen for all their hard work in putting this together.

We had a great community event on the 12th with the Elks putting on a public safety fair for all the students from our local schools invited, then that evening the Dispatcher Awards Ceremony. It was truly rewarding to honor all of these hard working individuals from each department.

We are continuing to see the Friday night event, Raise the Roof, grow; which is wonderful and with the weather only improving we will start taking advantage of the patio more. I appreciate all the patience on the part of the Friday night attendees, as we are working to improve the food availability. We really do apologize for the food shortages we have had a few nights.

Also, thank you to all of the officers who are attending and helping with all of our lodge events. It is really great to have the membership get to know each of our officers.

May is full of great events as we start to head into summer, which I think is welcomed by all.

On May 4-5 our officers will be competing in the North District Ritual Competition in Willows. We have been working hard to defend our first place win from last year and look forward to doing the same this year.

Mother’s Day is right around the corner too. We will be hosting a brunch at the lodge, so bring Mom down and treat her to a great meal cooked up by Chef Matt and our awesome kitchen staff.

Please come out on Memorial Day, as we will be hosting a Memorial Day service at the lodge. You will also get to see the many flags our Flag Committee will put out around lodge grounds; it is truly a wonderful sight to see.

I look forward to seeing our members out at the lodge and remember to please make those reservations for dinners and events.

Fraternally yours, Matt Goddard, ER

April ER’s Message

Hello Chico Lodge, Well, this time has finally arrived. What seemed so far away as I started my journey as an officer is now a reality. It has been a journey filled with knowledge, a lot of laughs, and the chance to meet so many of our great members and make a lot of great friends. I know there are still a lot of you I have yet to meet, so let me formally introduce myself. I am Matt Goddard and have been a member of the Lodge for 6 years. I have held multiple officer positions and enjoyed each and every one. I am supported by my lovely wife, Jennifer, who many of you have met. Jen and I have an almost two year old named Adelaide, who we have been packing around the Lodge with us since she was only 5 days old.

I look forward to an exciting year! Who knows what it will bring, but I am sure it will be filled with challenges and rewards that I will remember forever. I look forward to seeing new faces at all of the many great Lodge events we have planned for this year.

If it has been a while since you have been to the Lodge, please stop on by; there is truly always something going on. We have started a new event on Friday nights called “Raise the Roof” which will help us raise some funds to replace our leaky and dilapidated roof. This event is being chaired by Mike & Patty Efford and Bill & Leslie Dixon. They have a rotating menu each week of delicious small plates.

There is live music and drink specials from 4-7 PM. So please stop in and check it out.

Easter is right around the corner. We will be having a visit from Mr. Easter Bunny himself for the children’s egg hunt which will take place after the Fizz Brunch on Sunday, April 8th. This is one of my favorite family events of the year and one you surely don’t want to miss! Please don’t forget to make reservations for events and dinners you would like to attend through De and Randy in the Lodge office.

I look forward to a great year! See you at the Lodge!

March ER’s Message

I wrote a book last month, so in this, my LAST letter from the desk of the Ex- alted Ruler, I would like to just say THANK YOU!

It has been a pleasure serving in the Chairs and also this last year as Exalted Ruler. I have made new friends and met people I wouldn’t have otherwise.

I won’t even try to thank all the people who have helped me throughout this year individually. I will thank our staff as a whole because they do a great job!

I would like to leave you with this: Please get involved at the Lodge and make it a goal to bring in one new member a year.

Thank you again!
