Elks Ladies February News
Well the Elks’ Ladies have had a busy December and January.
In December, we raffled off a large stocking. Virginia Yasko was the happy recipient of a well stocked Christmas stocking! Now in February, we will be raffling off a Valentine basket.
Every December, we choose the recipients of our Man of the Year and the Woman of the Year awards. Our guidelines for this award are people who go above and beyond the norm in being helpful to our Ladies group.
This year Devan Hilligoss received the Man of the Year award. Devan is an employee here at Manzanita Place; he is always pleasant to everyone and is cheerfully helpful. Gloria Bickley received the Man of the Year award. Gloria steps up and helps with all sorts of Elks Ladies projects. Devan was given a crystal beer stein and Gloria was given a silver picture frame. They were both astonished honorees.
Joe Lusher played Christmas music and then we joined the SIRS 110 for their program. We adopted three families for Christmas and thank you to everyone who helped make it a great Christmas for them.. Thank you to Donna Ramey, Memoree Glander and Michele Smith who put in a lot of hard work and long hours.
Also a big thanks to all the Ladies who made food for the December 5th memorial. As usual they did a great job.
At our January meeting, we had the Barry Kirshner Wildlife Foundation. Roberta Kirshner came to talk about her Foundation and she brought a kinkajou to show us. Everyone enjoyed it. We even had seven men come to our meeting. You know gentlemen can come to our meetings. I think it gives them an insight into what we do.
This January meeting was the one when we voted in the new officers for 2011-2012 Elks Ladies year. Our new officers will be: President, Carol Bird; First Vice-President, Donna Allspaugh; Second Vice-President, Eileen Maneker; Recording Secretary, Gloria Bickley; Corresponding Secretary, Ronni Moss; Treasurer, Diane Johnson. The Ladies will be installed at the March 21st meeting.
We will be raffling off a clock at the Open Crab Feed in March and we are working on a “Sock Hop” to go along with the car show in August.
Ladies, it is time to pay your dues. They are only $5 per year. Please rejoin us if you have been off a couple of years; even if you can only come for a couple of meetings. We work on making our meetings interesting. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
Elks Ladies
Chico Elks Ladies kicked off their first meeting of the fall on Monday, September 20th, with a luncheon at the Lodge.
We had a program presented by Judy Reed, who represented the Spay/Neuter Program of PAWS. They not only assist with spaying and neutering costs, their other emphasis is “educating the public of the importance of spaying and neutering our pets.” She treated us to a raffle.
Various members brought us up to date on summer activities like the Fourth of July Cake Walk, our help at several Memorials held at the Lodge, and participating in the Dog Show and Chili Cook-Off held at the Lodge, as well as other things accomplished. We received “Thank You” messages from our scholarship winners.
We welcomed two new members, Anna De Mello and Ann Smith. We would like to invite all Elk wives and widows to join us. We meet the third Monday of the Month at the Lodge for lunch.
President Carol Bird listed many of the fun activities planned for this fall such as the Veterans’ Program, a Basket Raffle, Musical Program, our Christmas Adopt-A-Family, etc. Come join us. See you there!
Do you travel? While you are on the road would you like to find the Elks Lodge near you?
