AN EVENT TO CELEBRATE OUR LIVING VETERANS
The all-volunteer Chico Veterans Day Committee in conjunction with the Chico Elks Lodge #423, will hold its annual program on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11am at Chico Elks Lodge #423—1705 Manzanita Avenue in Chico.
Doors will open at 9:30 and the Chico Community Band under the direction of Ellen Pasterino will begin
playing at 10:30 am.
Lone Pine 4-H members will be at the door to hand out programs and small American flags and the Chico
Veterans Honor Guard will post and retire the colors (American flag).
After the one-hour plus program, a lunch of beans and franks along with coffee and cold drinks will be available at no charge.
Various veterans groups will have tables at the back of the hall displaying memorabilia, books and pictures
for public review. “Taps” will be played by Jesse Rosenquist at the end of the ceremony, not because it is a sombre event, but because it is a fitting close to any military function.
Boy Scout Troop #423 will conduct a United States Flag Retirement Ceremony in the picnic area behind the
lodge following lunch at approximately 1 pm. Should you have any tattered or soiled US flags or flags that you
want retired, please give them to one of the Scouts. Each flag is honorably treated and retired as prescribed in flag etiquette.
